Spring 2011 News

Several graduate students recieved funding from the PWR program to present their work at conferences this spring:

Laura Bolt (PWR) presented at the second annual English Graduate Symposium at North Carolina State University in February.

Amanda Smith (TWL) presented on "The Commodification and Commercialization of Secondary Education: 'Race to the Top' and Reform Discourse on National Public Radio" and Janet Palmisano (TWL) presented "In Search of a Language of Tolerance" at the New Media, New Ideas Graduate Symposium at James Madison University in April. These presentations began as projects completed for Professor Lawrence's ENG 611 Discourse Analysis course.

Lauren DeLaCruz (PWR) presented "Staging Dissent to Gain Legitimacy: How WikiLeaks Orchestrated Image Events to Enter the Public Sphere" at Composing Spaces: An Interdisciplinary Graduate at the University of Cincinnati in May and her paper has been accepted for publication within the virtual conference element of the Ninth International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities.
